2015! OMVF!

Howdy.
Been a while! Seems that on the last time we were talking about the animation video. So it was done and put out about a year ago. And few days ago I got a message from Oulu Music Video Festival that our video "Earth Of Life" is part of the festival in August. How cool is that! At least it will be shown from the screen at Snooker Time or at Valve, more info to come about that. Before that check it out if you haven't already:

After East-Rock we played a gig with the amazing TOOT TOOT and another with AlfaKalle and award-winning accordionist Ukko-Pekka Yliranta. Great stuff.
Maybe more talks about making of the video later if someone's interested.
See ya at OMVF!

2nd coming

Alright, we're back! And our soooooon was about 6 months, haha. But it's okay since the new single is now recorded & mixed and we're about to release it as soon as the mastering and music video are done. The estimated due date is Friday 13th June. The music video will be done diy way (of course) and it will be stop motion animation which I've been dreaming of doing for years. So watch out for that! Check out the teaser video from studio:

The special gig mentioned earlier took place in Salla, Lapland at an event called East-Rock 2014. The line-up was the most awkward we've played so far: first there were us, then a strongly political hardcore/punk band from Northern Finland, next a pretty basic rock trio from Rovaniemi and finally this famous little Finnish rapper called Uniikki. But it was great experience as the crowd consisted of mostly 6-10 year old boys and girls, some of them probably heard live music for the first time.

You can watch the whole show here:

So that's about it for now. Remember to check out the summer single & video next week!

Cheers

Final update (of the year, again!)

Well that was the year 2013. It was actually our busiest year so far, at least concerning concerts. After the last update, we played "Nuke" for the 4th time (hails to headliner The Grand Astoria!) and then Ravintola Caio in 8th December.

As said earlier, we surely played one new tune live a few times. And we're actually heading for the studio to record it, if possible, before the end of the year! So prepare yourselves for some bizarreness!

We're also going to publish our next gig soon. It will be very special event, I promise!

Btw, here's a collage from the "summer tour":

So have a good new year and we'll get back to you sooooon!

More gigs and stuff

So we played Ykän pub and the night was success, Talbot proved their brilliancy once again and Earthbound Machine played superb set as well! After that our trek continued to a mystical festival called Syynirock on 19th July. We had great time and apparently some people enjoyed our music and especially our special t-shirts! There's still some canvas bags left and they'll be available on our shows. Our next stop and the final gig for our "10th anniversary concert tour" is at Nuclear Nightclub on 31th July.

And lastly, the third and final cassette pressing is finally ready. It's numbered with insert and impressive 75 minutes of bonus material. It consists of DBO's remixed debut album "Red Lines Re-Entwined", original mix for the demo plus one surprise tune. You can purchase that also at our gig or via email. Price tag is 5 euros.

See you!
Jani

Gig + new material

Our next gig is at Ykän pub in Oulu 24.5. warming up the great Estonian fellows of Talbot. They play bone crushing heavy music with drums & bass. Also Earthbound Machine from Helsinki will be performing. Besides the classics we will play one brand new tune, so be sure to be there!

And what comes to our second release, the core material is already written. Now we need to practice hugely and maybe tweak some arrangements but I think we will be ready for studio by the end of summer. Or by the end of 2013, at the latest! I can reveal that there might be slight Mew influences, at least in some way. We both love that unique Danish band and have even played a bit of Introduing the Palace Players live one time.

That's it for now. Later! -Jani

Back from the silence!

Howdy there!

Been a long time. I guess we didn't make any history in year 2012 - at least with this band. But something happened, we released an EP with our other band Depth Beyond One's, Jarru moved to Tampere, we jammed a few tunes at my wedding party (drums+bass), my other band Clock Paradox released its debut album and Jarru moved back to Oulu.

And now since the whole band is in town, we can start to practice new material. I won't reveal our plans yet, but I promise it'll get interesting! We have also a gig coming in summer at the local happening called Syynirock. And 3rd cassette pressing of "sub specie aeternitatis" is almost ready. Very limited stuff! More info on that stuff here: www.dboband.com/progeiitti

Till next time

Final update! (of the year)

Well well. I don't know if anyone reads this but here we go. Many things have happened since the last entry. I'd like to sum up this fruitful year with following words:

First of all, our first gig outside Oulu since 2004 happened in Kemijärvi, at KeloStock festival July 2nd. It was a great evening and we did an ultimate die hard edition (5 copies!) of "sub specie aeternitatis" demo for that night. Besides the demo, package contained a DVD of our demo release gig "Basismin aakkoset". We also did a bunch of awesome k+k t-shirts before the gig. We'd like to thank all who bought our stuff, appreciated!

The gig went just fine and we also included a couple of new tunes in our set. The whole show can be seen here:

And here's some footage before and after the show:

Second of all, I'm so relieved that we finally got the 10" vinyl release out. The wait was long but I hope it was worth it. I think the package overall turned out quite nice with bonus cassette and all. We also did a 2nd pressing of the actual casette demo, 24 copies total. This time the cassette was white blank with both sides on both sides (does that make sense?). Anyway, I think it sounds superb on this particular format!

Third of all, a couple of new videos were released. The last video for the demo, Imperative Movement, showed the harsh reality of diy vinyl cover making. As a bonus we put out an alternative version for Tacts of Life shot with me and my little brother in a small village in the northern Finland.

Imperative Movement:

Tacts of Life (#2):

Lastly I wanna say that I'm still very happy with the demo and how it sounds. I'm also pleased how we got so understanding reviews from medias like Imperiumi and Inferno. Here's some of my favourite bits.

That's all. Hope we'll make some more history next year! Hablamos!

June update!

Tere!

Last week we had a pleasure to warp up the Nuclear Nightclub's stage for the Estonian duo of doom - Talbot. Great musicians, great company, great evening! Video material from our gig coming online sooner or later.

As for the vinyl pressing, it is finally progressing. We will have a test pressing done this week and if all goes well we'll have the whole batch done pretty soon. Cool!

Last weekend I did a music video for the song "After the Storm I Stare at the Sun" with my brother Ville and this is the result:

And here's the previous video done with Jarru, Tacts of Life:

See ya at KeloStock in Kemijärvi 2nd July!

Updates!

Howdy!

Here's some news from K+K camp.
First of all, we finally got the cassette released a couple of weeks ago. And they're almost sold out, thanks to you! There's still few at Levykauppax Äx for 4,90€. So go there and buy it before others!

Next on the line is the vinyl edition and that's going to be delayed at least a month due to technical problems. But sooner or later all you eight fortunate ones will have your vinyl with the magnificent bonus cassette!

Secondly, our demo release gig (and the event overall) went really well and our fellow musician Antti Karhu was awesome enough to record, film and cut the show for us. So kudos to Antti and the 2nd camera man Taneli Rantakokko! You can see the result here:

We also got the first demo review! Desibeli.net's Rami Turtinainen was gracious: http://www.desibeli.net/juttu/2255 (in Finnish).

Plans are to make a second music video soon!

P.S. There might be a gig in the northern Finland this summer.
P.P.S. We're getting one song on independent cassette compilation later this year.

Special Stuff 2004-2010

Almost all ten bonus cassettes are now recorded. Quite exhausting job as my tape recorder isn't at its best.. Here's the song list, from oldest to newest (different order in every cassette):

- Rosolli (J. Kanniainen & The Boys live @ Sotilaskoti, Sodankylä 7.1.2004)
- Tribute To Berzerker, I Love Berzerker & I Love Berzerker 2 (Jarru's solo project 04/05)
- Imperative (rehearsal recording 6.11.2005)
- Imperative (rehearsal recording 6.12.2005)
- Antti's Dream: Years of Stengah (rehearsal recording 21.7.2010)
- Random Mega Force (Guitar Pro "demo" 16.9.2010)
- Intro (Oulu rokkaa, Radio Mega 27.11.2010)

These 10 unique cassettes are already reserved for vinyl purchasers! The songs won't be available anywhere else so you small amount of people can consider yourselves lucky.
However, you still have to wait for the actual demo as it's is still in the mixing process. But it'll be finished sooner or later, don't worry! And good things are worth waiting for, or what they say.. If you're interested in obtaining a copy of the upcoming demo in c-cassette format (numbered edition of 20, price 5€), send us mail to kktactics(at)gmail.com

Oh, we had also our 2nd improv theatre rehearsals last week. That's exciting stuff too!

K+K + improv theatre stuff

Hi Fans!

Today we had a bizarre experience with Jani. we were asked to play improvised music to a group of actors in their rehearsals. Even more bizarre was the fact that they were also improvising every moment of their scenes. We used three different kind of approaches (as we were teached by the experienced actors).

First we played as sensitive as we could, trying to add depth to the improvised scenes. I think that is the most basic form of combining music and acting.
Second one was the first plus improvised, short songs whenever someone from the audience clapped. The clap stopped the scene and all actors had to sing in the theme of their most previous sentence they had used. I especially loved a song about "washing a corpse" on top of a funky groove.
Third one was called "film noir". It is supposed to have a gentle jazzy approach to it, and sometimes in the middle of acting any actor could jump in front of others (stopping the scene for a moment) and doing a "narrative sequence". For our playing, we made a special repeated part (improvised of course) for the "narrative parts". Other parts were basicly done as descriped above.

We really didn't know what improvised acting was all about. Now we know. It is definitely interesting. And cool. And have we mentioned before; we really love playing improvised crooked stuff!

Yours,
Jarru & Jani

Bonus cassettes

Hi,
I just started making some bonus cassette covers for vinyl byers. We're gonna put different song order to each copy and I decided to make the covers a bit more special with typewriter. Had slight problems with the machine resulting 4 covers in about an hour. Luckily there's only 10 cassettes coming, hah.

And good news about the actual demo; I just got the shakuhachi part for Random Mega Force! Salutes to Erkki! Now just some final mixing and mastering and we're done.

Here's some pics and a video from the cover session:

Freaky shit

Merry December to all,
the demo is progressing slowly but surely!
On 27th November Oulu's Radio Mega played a rough mix of the opening track Imperative Movement and the same evening we played a gig at Hevimesta. As promised before, we had a special guest star with us, Erkki Lassila who played shakuhachi (japanese flute) for a few songs. Our setlist included demo's all four tracks (except that "Täpstorm" was played in the old school way), DBO's old classic Dearth Of Life and an unexpected encore that went, well, just fine considering that we hadn't rehearsed for it at all. All in all, a fun evening! Behind this link you'll find some videos from the show + soundcheck.

Cheers,
Jani

Mixing day

Hey,
so yesterday we progressed fine with the mix. Plus I played a short theremin "solo" with first take and laid some SID-stuff in few places as well. Sometimes there's a lot going on being a drums and bass demo, hah.

Again, some pics from the sessions:

Lustfully yours,
Jani

The gestation period end's looming

Howdy there,
this Sunday we're gonna put the last percussion tracks and some special stuff to the table and meld it all together with the help of our mixing wizard Väinö. We may also record some theremin and SID-synths for few parts.. But even now the mix sounds great and I could say that we'll have the demo finished before Christmas.

Today we rehearsed for our next gig @ Hevimesta next Saturday 27.11. (free entrance!) With us was shakuhachi guru Erkki who's gonna play some solos also for the demo. We'll perform all demo tracks there for the first time so you shouldn't miss that. Some other special guests may be appearing there as well..
Here's a couple of pics from the sessions:

See ya next Saturday!
